Future Engineer
Amazon has inaugurated its first Amazon Future Engineer Makerspace in Bengaluru, an initiative designed to equip over 4,000 students by 2025 with essential technological skills. Targeting underserved students in grades 5 to 12, this program offers completely free access to cutting-edge educational resources.
Programme Overview
The Makerspace offers a variety of programs tailored to different skill levels. Beginners can attend short 3-4 hour sessions that introduce them to basic robotics and coding. Intermediate learners can participate in 6-hour sessions, spread over two days, to explore advanced robotics, programming, prototyping, and design. For advanced students, multi-month programs are available to deepen their expertise in these fields.
Facilities and Equipment
The Makerspace is equipped with specialized areas for building and testing robots. It boasts state-of-the-art tools, including 3D printers, lathes, and power tools, along with electronic kits for international competitions. These resources provide students with hands-on experience in technology and engineering.
Mentorship and Support
Expert mentors and Amazon volunteers will guide students through their learning journey, helping them develop critical skills in coding, problem-solving, and design thinking. The mentorship is designed to inspire a love for STEM and foster future innovators.
Booking and Participation
Students can book their sessions online, with each session accommodating up to 40 participants. This collaborative learning environment encourages interaction among students, enhancing the educational experience.
Promoting Digital Equity
Amazon’s initiative aims to promote digital equity by offering free access to advanced technological education. Akshay Kashyap, the India Lead for the Amazon Future Engineer Program, highlighted the importance of empowering young minds. This Makerspace is just the beginning of Amazon’s ongoing commitment to fostering the next generation of innovators.
