Karnataka Wind Power Energy: A Renewable Energy Success Story

Karnataka Wind Power Energy
Karnataka Wind Power Energy sees record growth with 1,331.48 MW added in 2024–25, leading India’s clean energy drive.

Karnataka has emerged as India’s wind energy powerhouse, topping the charts for capacity additions in the financial year 2024–25. The state added a remarkable 1,331.48 MW of wind power, a feat celebrated at the Global Wind Day 2025 event held in Bengaluru.

Soaring Ahead: Karnataka Wind Power Energy

With the new additions, Karnataka’s total installed wind capacity has reached 7,351 MW, firmly placing it among the leaders in the country’s clean energy landscape. This substantial annual growth reflects the state’s ongoing commitment to achieving India’s broader goal of 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030.

Major Investments Fueling Growth

At the Global Investors Meet 2025, Karnataka attracted investment commitments worth ₹4 lakh crore, nearly 40% of the state’s total pledged investments. A significant portion of this is earmarked for the development of 17 GW of wind power projects, including over 5 GW under the Renewable Energy Cluster Programme. Infrastructure upgrades, such as 20+ substations and new 400 kV corridors, are also being rolled out to support this expansion.

India’s Wind Energy Footprint in the World

India currently ranks 4th globally in wind power generation, with an installed capacity of 51.5 GW. The country is targeting 100 GW from wind energy (including 30 GW offshore) as part of its 500 GW renewable target by 2030. Notably, Indian manufacturers have exported between 3.5–4 GW of wind turbines and modules in the current fiscal year, signaling a growing global presence.

The Road Ahead: Building a Green Energy Backbone

India’s clean energy future hinges on more than just capacity—grid stability, round-the-clock power supply, and integrated solutions like wind-solar hybrids and pumped storage systems are key. To stay competitive, the sector will also need affordable tariffs and a strong domestic manufacturing ecosystem.
